Simple repair: Drill a 3/8 inch hole at about the same distance to either side of the split and use a nylon wire tie (zip tie) to hold the split together. If the split is long, you might want to use a few parallel wire ties. The wire ties will last a season or two before they break, and will need replacement.

Some types of outdoor furniture, such as the simple, stackable patio chairs with the slightly wobbly legs, are usually made with polypropylene; look for a Resin Identification Code [RIC] number (5) in a triangle on the underside of the furniture. In general, number (5) plastics are sometimes accepted for recycling, but the size and shape of the plastic furniture still usually prohibits it from being recycled curbside.

This is also one of the most durable chairs on the market. It owes this to its extra-thick design. Though this thickness is great for the long run, it does add a lot of weight. This chair tips the scales around 44 pounds, which makes it one of the heavier options out there. Of course, this is still light enough to move around easily in comparison to a wooden model. As you would expect from such a durable chair, this one has a very high weight capacity of 400 pounds.

Oak: Durable and solid, oak is a popular wood for all types of furniture, and for good reason. It’s heavy, giving Adirondack chairs a solid feel, and it’s beautiful. The price is comparable to that of pine and cedar. However, maintenance is another matter. Direct sunlight can cause streaking or color changes. Oak chairs should be kept in the shade, and they will need a UV-protectant stain.

Opt for wood with very little infrequent maintenance needs once you’ve completed the project. Then you can sit back, enjoy, and not have to worry about retreating, revarnishing, or repainting it over and over.

I just painted mine with the exact same paint she used. I put mine in the garage a couple days after I finished them because it was suppose to rain. They got a little dusty so I went to brush them off with a soft cloth and the color came off on my cloth. Now I am also afraid to sit in them.

Then decided I would keep them anyway only to find after unboxing all to assemble them 3 of 4 came with a wrong bar and could not be assembled. 3 hours of my life wasted dealing with them and I still need to go to UPS to return them Very small compared to my older real wood Adirondacks. For the price I would have expected a larger chair. Good size for me and my children but not for my husband. It's a great looker, nice design beautiful color. However the workmanship is a bit meh. Pieces initially didn't fit correctly, but once you sit on it, it came into place. A bit more desirable to have the gaps and edge roughness be more fine tuned. Comfort is like wood. Feels soft and enough resistance. I read some people complaining about how the seats aren't "adult" sized. I am 6'2 and fits fine. So I don't know what size those people are. A cushion will help soften the hard feel but I am plenty happy with it 4.0 out of 5 stars Great but just minor flaws By CoopaPple on April 14, 2021 It's a great looker, nice design beautiful color. It is made entirely out of 5/4 Western Red Cedar. The parts are held firmly in place using 1 3/4" stainless steel fasteners, and special, elasticized polyurethane adhesive, to keep the chair rigid, even when put through -40 to 120 degree temperature. We use Western Red Cedar as our feedstock. It is light, the resin is poisonous to insects, and the Species features an extremely high thermal factor. Western Red Cedar has 80% of the tensile strength of Oak, and is pound-for-pound stronger than steel! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! Local honey! Great for allergies! Western Red Cedar is also an appearance-grade wood. When properly coated with Sikkens Cetol, Tung Oil or quality stain, the grains stand out, providing high aesthetic appeal, and and long-lasting durability - even under severe conditions. It is not uncommon for a properly finished Adirondack Chair to last 100 years, there are many in existence to prove it. Naturally, these furniture pieces often become family heirlooms, and are handed down generations after generation, becoming sought after prizes for collectors. We have also made custom orders using other woods, such as mahogany, so let us know if you are looking for something different!

The design proved popular, and Lee made a number of chairs for family and friends. Then, in 1904, when his hunting pal, Harry C. Bunnell, found himself without a source of winter income, Lee handed over the plans to his chair. And Bunnell, without Lee’s knowledge, received a patent for the design—with a few added features. Harry C. Bunnell, of Westport, New York's Chair, patented July 18, 1905 U.S. Patent 794,777
