It will stay looking brand new for years to come. Even in the harshest weather, this chair is meant to resist rain, snow and even has stainless steel bolts to prevent rust occurring. Ok so maybe you should clean the thing every once in a while, but other than that, this is the perfect set and forget outdoors chair built for larger sized people. We do not build our chairs with little stick legs or narrow back boards with large gaps between them. We use thick one and a half inch thick boards for the front and back legs which provides more surface area to screw and glue down the seat and arm boards. This makes our chairs tough and sturdy and less likely to split out over time. Now what about the all important Adirondack chair arms? All our original designs feature traditional wide one inch thick arms because simply put they make the classic American iconic chair what it is; without them you would not have that perfect spot to place your drink, plate of food, book or anything else. It is our goal to make our chairs well balanced, eye catching as well as strong and long lasting. No two pieces of wood are exactly the same. This is why it is best for us to assemble our chairs one at a time. Using this type of detailed craftsmanship allows us to make sure that each and every Clarks Original that leaves our shop goes together correctly and is our best. We are very confident that when you get ready to assemble your chair it will go together the way it is suppose too.
"Teak comes with a high price tag because it’s in high demand for outdoor and indoor furniture. Its incredible durability makes it a worthwhile investment since you won’t need to replace it for years, and it can be left outside all year. "

After settling on a design, he hired a local Westport Carpenter named Harry Bunnell to make a set of the chairs. Impressed by the design, Bunnell saw the commercial potential and began selling the chairs to Westport’s other visitors. Unfortunately, he… forgot… to ask Thomas Lee’s permission to sell the chairs. Bunnell filed for a patent on the design, and received one in 1905, despite not actually designing the chair. Bunnell sold the “Westport chairs”, made of Hemlock, for the next 20 years. Typically he would paint them green or brown, and he sold them directly to buyers.

In 1938, Irving Wolpin of New Jersey acquired a patent for another design change. Described as a "lawn-chair," Wolpin's chair had the slanted seat and wide armrests of the Westport chair, was constructed out of smaller slats, but also featured a rounded back and contoured seat. Wolpin's design is the most commonly replicated Adirondack chair today.

Building it is somewhat challenging and requires a little more than beginner woodworking skills. So unless you have mastered the woodworking trade, the last thing you want is wood that is difficult to work with.
Over time, the design has been tweaked and improved upon. Often contemporary Adirondack chairs will feature a seashell style rounded back, and a sloping seat base for comfort. These modifications were originally the idea of Irving Wolpin, who redesigned the chair in 1938 and also received a patent on it.
