Adirondack chairs are expensive mainly because they are guaranteed to stay durable over time without requiring excessive maintenance.
The Adirondack chair (also called the Muskoka chair in Canada) was crafted of 11 flat wooden boards and had the classic straight-back seat and wide wooden armrests. This chair was originally designed by Thomas Lee while vacationing in Westport, New York — a small town in the Adirondack Mountains.
The popularity of this updated design spread, and because the chair originated in the Adirondacks, it was widely-known as the Adirondack chair. The exception is in Canada, where the chair is called the Muskoka chair, likely due to its popularity in the Muskoka region.
These elements badly alter wood, for example, when water soaks in. The best wood for Adirondack chairs won’t rot, swell, warp or crack after long-term exposure to the elements.
Environmental friendliness - Taking care of our environment is a big deal. Environmental scientists warn us to choose better materials and to find ways to remove plastics from the environment. The production of poly furniture takes over 210 million plastic jugs and bottles and recreates them into something families can enjoy for many years. Further, during production of poly wood, there are no harmful gases or chemicals released into the environment.
The only thing that you need to worry about with this chair is that it has a lower weight capacity rating than other models. This chair is by no means flimsy, but it can only hold up to 300 pounds. It is also a bit more narrow than other chairs, so keep this in mind before you make your final decision, as it will not be able to accommodate larger people very well. Material: POLYWOOD lumber (HDPE recycled plastic) Colors available: 12 Dimensions: 37 x 35 x 29.5 inches Capacity: 400 lbs. Weight: 44 lbs.

Our runner-up poly resin Adirondack chair is the Highwood Hamilton line [Amazon Link] [Wayfair Link] of Adirondack chairs.
It is seriously tough with tight pores and insect and rot resistance. Mahogany is commonly featured in boat making and would function appropriately for Adirondack chairs for outdoor spaces.
The Furniture Barn USA Poly Lumber wooden folding Adirondack chair is a good quality line of poly resin Adirondack chairs. They are available in a wide variety of colors that go through the resin (shown here in Orange) and include a cup holder, which is a fairly nice feature.
The Trex line of chairs are great, they are just like our top choice the Polywood chairs! However, the color palette is staid, and you are paying a bit of a premium for the Trex brand name. They have the same 20-year warranty that Polywood does.
Love this idea and my chairs look great–except there are chips in the paint after only one week. Did you have this problem? Any ideas of how to keep them from chipping again after I re-paint.
