How many cans of pant per chair or how many chairs does one can of paint cover? Thank you BTW, do you remember where you got those particular plastic resin Adirondack chairs? I’m asking because the new batch of A-chairs out there have been redesigned and I do not like the so-called lumbar support bump that they have now. Also, I have looked all over for the former design of the matching footstools. The “old” footstools were flat, not sloped like the “new & improved” design. Another case of a redesign that doesn’t meet many customers wants and needs. Thanks!

Oak: Durable and solid, oak is a popular wood for all types of furniture, and for good reason. It’s heavy, giving Adirondack chairs a solid feel, and it’s beautiful. The price is comparable to that of pine and cedar. However, maintenance is another matter. Direct sunlight can cause streaking or color changes. Oak chairs should be kept in the shade, and they will need a UV-protectant stain.

Highwood Hamilton’s Adirondack chair line has a great deal to offer, with three different scales, a folding option, a reclining option, a good warranty, and several colors to choose from. Compared to some of the other pieces on our list today, these colors are a bit… conservative, but they are attractive.

But Lee and Bunnell’s slant-back chair endured. Permutations of the original design continued to appear, some from the workshops of weekend hobbyists, and others from the loftier circles of furniture designers like Gerrit Rietveld, whose 1918 “Red and Blue Chair” and boxy 1934 “Crate Chair” exhibit similar DNA. In 1938, Irving Wolpin of New Jersey patented a chair in the Westport form with a fan-shaped back and slats where Lee and Bunnell had used planks. It’s essentially the version we recognize today, and it appears throughout the Adirondacks, and even in Westport, where Lee’s design still holds court on some porches.

“It is a chair rooted in the history of disease,” is how artist and furniture maker Daniel Mack put it in The Adirondack Chair: A Celebration of a Summer Classic, a 2008 tribute to the quintessential piece of porch furniture.

As for the size of the chair, it’s slightly smaller then the King Size Highwood brand. Which is probably to be expected having a smaller weight capacity of 300 pounds. The seat itself is just under 21″ wide and sits 14 inches from the ground. As for the back of the chair it’s also just shorter at 36.9 inches in height. Assembly is somewhat easier, but do note: Don’t over tighten the screws or you could damage the ends,or even worse crack the slat. Just go gently if using a drill.

Wood is the traditional choice for Adirondack chairs, going back to the late 1800s. When properly maintained, wood can look gorgeous, and give a classic flair. However, the reality is that keeping your wooden Adirondack chairs in good shape takes work! Sanding, painting, staining, cleaning, patching broken slats, etc. are all painful.

Update: we decided to order 3 more of these chairs for $229.00 amd we sat in it and now the plastic is hot or something and its bowing down amd the material feels really soft and flimsy. I will definitely be contacting the company or the seller for a partial refund. These are not worth $229.00 dont waste your hard earned money. 1.0 out of 5 stars 5/24/2020 update: cheap. By Saylor on January 26, 2020 I love this chair. It was easy to assemble and it's super comfortable. But when I ordered mine I paid $147.00 and then i went back to get the other three we need and they went up to $229.00. That's an $82.00 difference. That's crazy. What happened?!

The only thing that you need to worry about with this chair is that it has a lower weight capacity rating than other models. This chair is by no means flimsy, but it can only hold up to 300 pounds. It is also a bit more narrow than other chairs, so keep this in mind before you make your final decision, as it will not be able to accommodate larger people very well. Material: POLYWOOD lumber (HDPE recycled plastic) Colors available: 12 Dimensions: 37 x 35 x 29.5 inches Capacity: 400 lbs. Weight: 44 lbs.

The Adirondack chair (also called the Muskoka chair in Canada) was crafted of 11 flat wooden boards and had the classic straight-back seat and wide wooden armrests. This chair was originally designed by Thomas Lee while vacationing in Westport, New York — a small town in the Adirondack Mountains.
