We do not build our chairs with little stick legs or narrow back boards with large gaps between them. We use thick one and a half inch thick boards for the front and back legs which provides more surface area to screw and glue down the seat and arm boards. This makes our chairs tough and sturdy and less likely to split out over time. Now what about the all important Adirondack chair arms? All our original designs feature traditional wide one inch thick arms because simply put they make the classic American iconic chair what it is; without them you would not have that perfect spot to place your drink, plate of food, book or anything else. It is our goal to make our chairs well balanced, eye catching as well as strong and long lasting. No two pieces of wood are exactly the same. This is why it is best for us to assemble our chairs one at a time. Using this type of detailed craftsmanship allows us to make sure that each and every Clarks Original that leaves our shop goes together correctly and is our best. We are very confident that when you get ready to assemble your chair it will go together the way it is suppose too.
Poly is also an environmentally-friendly choice because it is made of 95% recycled material. .
Its color can range from reddish-brown to white when fresh and grows even more beautiful with age, turning a silverish gray color. It stains and paints well too.
I would imagine your garage is too humid. Spray paint takes longer to fully cure if it’s humid.

Okay, I seriously have to try this. I have blue wooden ones but my old beige plastic ones are looking pretty sad. Thanks for the informative and funny tutorial!
For now, the first set actually looks great outside of our cabin in the Catskills. It’s still pretty chilly up there.
You can create a different mood for your backyard, lawn or patio by mixing and matching colors for a two-tone effect. For example you can use lime green, teal green, cool blues or powder blue with brilliant white for a “fresh look”. Or mix rich blues, greens, yellow, reds and orange to add vibrancy and excitement… Or use vivid deep colors such as burgundy, cedar, forest green to enhance your back yard wooded area.
Unfortunately, Trex’s chairs come in a more traditional color palette. Trex is one probably the biggest brand name in the poly resin material market and is one of our favorite outdoor furniture brands. They have been selling porch decking and flooring for decades.
Another big consideration that you need to take into account is how big your new chairs are going to be. Adirondack chairs have a tendency to be larger than other types of patio chairs, so if you have a smaller outdoor space, you need to make sure you get a chair that won’t be too big. If you have a smaller space, then the PolyTEAK Classic Folding Poly Adirondack Chair might be a good model for you. Of course, if you have a larger space and size isn’t an issue, the POLYWOOD Vineyard Adirondack Rocking Chair might be a good fit.
Our runner-up poly resin Adirondack chair is the Highwood Hamilton line [Amazon Link] [Wayfair Link] of Adirondack chairs.
The finish is only available in two colors, a natural cedar color and a pale gray. All of the other pieces on our list today are available in several color options, so this is a significant downside to us.
Though a purveyor of the “wilderness cure,” Trudeau himself rarely used the term. “He believed in science,” Catania says, noting that most patients who recovered from TB did so as the result of good nursing. “Being in the fresh air was part of it, but he didn’t claim any magical restorative power in the air.”
After settling on a design, he hired a local Westport Carpenter named Harry Bunnell to make a set of the chairs. Impressed by the design, Bunnell saw the commercial potential and began selling the chairs to Westport’s other visitors. Unfortunately, he… forgot… to ask Thomas Lee’s permission to sell the chairs. Bunnell filed for a patent on the design, and received one in 1905, despite not actually designing the chair. Bunnell sold the “Westport chairs”, made of Hemlock, for the next 20 years. Typically he would paint them green or brown, and he sold them directly to buyers.
