Some types of outdoor furniture, such as the simple, stackable patio chairs with the slightly wobbly legs, are usually made with polypropylene; look for a Resin Identification Code [RIC] number (5) in a triangle on the underside of the furniture. In general, number (5) plastics are sometimes accepted for recycling, but the size and shape of the plastic furniture still usually prohibits it from being recycled curbside.

Something else that you might want to consider is looking for a chair that has waterproof or water-resistant hardware. Even though the plastic won’t be affected by the weather, the hardware certainly could be. The last thing you want is to have your new chairs ruined by some unsightly rust stains.
This is another great example of the wonders of spray paint! Excellent! (Love the colors too!). .

Shorea: If aged wood in shades of gray and silver appeals to you, you need an Adirondack chair made of shorea. Some types of shorea start as light brown and slowly take on a soft gray if left unfinished. Shorea resists bugs and holds up well in tough weather conditions. Other wood: Less-common woods you may find include hemlock, acacia, and fir. Hemlock and acacia are hardwoods. Fir is a softwood that is occasionally used to make inexpensive Adirondack chairs. I would imagine your garage is too humid. Spray paint takes longer to fully cure if it’s humid.

It will stay looking brand new for years to come. Even in the harshest weather, this chair is meant to resist rain, snow and even has stainless steel bolts to prevent rust occurring. Ok so maybe you should clean the thing every once in a while, but other than that, this is the perfect set and forget outdoors chair built for larger sized people. The King size is what the heavy person will be interested in, however the Adult size may still interest people up to 350 lbs.

You may find it helpful to loosen the bolts in the pivot spacer to make unfolding the assembly easier. Next, attach the seat to the front legs using (2) 1 7/8" bolts, (2) 1/4" washers, and (2) 1/4" nylock nuts. Tighten with a 7/16" wrench and the provided 4mm T-handle hex key. For quicker assembly you can use a drill and a 4mm hex bit instead of the provided hex key. Finally, insert the adirondack pins into the seat of the chair. You can use a soft mallet to tap the pins into place. If you loosened the bolts in the pivot spacer before step 1, go ahead and tighten those at this time. What an awesome project! Great tips for making these chairs. I love how they turned out.
Regardless of intent, the Westport chair’s combination of a slanted back and high, supportive armrests makes it a particularly good seat from which to take a breath, notes Mack. “The chair opens your chest up when you sit in it,” says the author. “It might have been the poor man’s cure chair.”

Gorilla Glue doesn't work. We have about 10 of these chairs with tables at our Lake house and they all eventually split, crack, etc. I tried every thing including Gorilla, Crazy, and any other glue, duct tape, etc. I now put a towel over chair to cover cracked part and "Forget about it". My husband saw the chairs for $12. at a local hardware store up at the lake house so when the towels wear out we will just spring for the new chair. Good luck and let me know if you have had any success with your repair efforts,
Over time, the design has been tweaked and improved upon. Often contemporary Adirondack chairs will feature a seashell style rounded back, and a sloping seat base for comfort. These modifications were originally the idea of Irving Wolpin, who redesigned the chair in 1938 and also received a patent on it.

Any time I’ve done detail like that, I’ve used really thin painters tape to get really clean lines. It means extra steps, but it’s worth it.

The Furniture Barn USA Poly Lumber line of poly resin Adirondack chairs is quite nice and will last a lifetime. The cup holder may be a nice bonus for some, though we rather like the uninterrupted plane of the traditional Adirondack arm a little better, and typically those arms are wide enough to rest drinks upon.

Love your idea and the color! Went out and bought the exact same color (satin lagoon). I scrubbed my 2 chairs with a brush and used the hose to rinse and let them dry for hours before painting. Ran out of paint before finishing my second chair. Had to wait about 2-3 weeks to finish a little bit of touch up on 1st chair (due to back problems). I waited at least 3 weeks before even thinking about sitting on it. I also kept it in the garage for several days to dry right after spraying it (so it wouldn’t get rained on). I used an old towel to dry off the raindrops and noticed blue paint! Now I’m afraid to let anyone sit on it. I didn’t use primer. Any suggestions?
